June: The first month of the Aussie winter, Gemini season, and my coming of age. A month of love, passion, and warmth, despite the frosty mornings. Here is a collection of the people, things, events, and places that have kept my thriving and in love with life.

Watching

The Princess Bride. This movie brings to mind days from my childhood when I would lie in bed sick and immerse myself in the world of Florin and Gilder. Wesley and Buttercup’s love story is one of my favourites. I watched this movie with my lover this month, and I fell in love with it – and him – all over again.

Doing

Celebrating my birthday. I had the most amazing party with a ton of my friends, dancing the night away to live bands in my backyard. Read all about it in my previous post.

Travelling. On a whim, my friend and I decided to wake up at 6am and catch a train to Melbourne. We wandered the streets, filled our tummies with doughnuts, then watched one of our fave musicians give a free live performance at the National Gallery of Victoria. Independence is the best kind of freedom.

Being a ‘grown up’. It’s amazing how one day can make such a difference. On the 13th I was a child, banned from legally doing many things, and on the 14th of June I suddenly became an adult. I spontaneously walked into a piercing shop with some of my closest friends, asked to pierce my nipple, and then proceeded to chicken out. Oh well, at least I legally can do it, even if I don’t have the guts to…

Reading

The Princess Bride. Just like the movie, I’ve had the book for years, yet never read it. I keep it by my bedside and read a chapter or two whenever I want a break from the commitments and responsibilities of this world.

Following

@grettaray Dreamy acoustics, poet lyrics, and the most naturally angelic voice in Melbourne, Gretta Ray is a bundle of talent wrapped up in the body of an 18 year old girl.

@maryrosenberger She inspired me to learn how to balance spoons off my nipples… and so much more. The most down to earth aspiring model/artist/designer in the northern hemisphere, Mary makes you wish she were simultaneously your best friend and mum.

Loving

Wood fires. Hot chocolate in hand, feet buried in the fluffy rug underneath my feet, I love to spend evenings warming myself by the fireplace in the living room. Or, even better, evenings spent curled up in the night air with friends, cool cans of alcohol in our hands defeating the purpose of the fire.

Brandied pear and spice. This scent brings to mind tasty European treats. It’s actually the flavour of a beautiful soy candle my mum gifted me. Most nights I light it on my bedside table and bathe in the scent before drifting off to sleep.

Black patent boots. So 90s. So chic. I feel like a fucking star anytime I wear my Therapy black liquid Hoxton boots. They add instant confidence to any outfit.
